What is the CAA Members Area?
Members-only Sub-site
This is a password-protected section of our site that provides information available only to CAA members such as:
- listings of the CAA Executive, including e-mail addresses;
- special pricing on The Canadian Writer’s Guide;
- expanded electronic copies of the National Newsline;
- grievances resources for writers
- branch resources including CAA manuals and handbooks; and
- minutes from our AGM, by-laws and other administrative resources.
This gives our members access to a larger range of material than we offer to the public. If you are not a member, consider joining the CAA.
Password Protected
Access to the CAA Members Area requires that you have a current username and password to enter, both of which are provided to our members.
- This password was last changed on February 1, 2008.
- Members subscribed to the CAA Members-only canadian_authors listserv receive notification of such changes via a message on this service.
- Members only will find a notice in or with their National Newsline when changes occur.
- New members will be notified by National Office when their membership has been processed, but can also ask their branch president for this information.
If you have not received the new password and are a member in good standing, please contact the National Director.
How to Enter
If you already have the username and password, you can go directly to the CAA Members Area. You will encounter a request for a user name and password that looks like this:
Using Internet Explorer
If you are using Internet Explorer 6 or 7 you will see a box appear that is similar to the one on the left.
Enter your user name and password in the appropriate areas and click on OK. To store these values, enable the checkbox beside "Remember my password."
Your browser should then open the introductory page in the CAA Members Area.
Using Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape
If you are using Firefox (or any Mozilla-based Web browser) you will see a prompt box similar to the one on the left.
Enter your user name and password in the appropriate areas and click on OK. To store these values, enable the checkbox beside "Use Password Manager to remember this password."
Your browser should then open the introductory page in the CAA Members Area.
If you have difficulties, click on your Web browser’s back button to return to this page for troubleshooting assistance.
Saving the User Name & Password Information
You are given the option to have your Web browser "remember" the values you entered (recommended) so that you don’t have to look them up next time. It is a good idea to also record this information in a safe location that you will be able to find later, if necessary.
To remove the stored entries (such as when the password is changed) simply uncheck the checkbox and click OK. When you restart your Web browser, the values will have been "forgotten" and you can then enter updated or correct information if you choose.
If It Doesn’t Work
Authorization Required
If the prompt reappears or you see a notice headed Authorization Required, you have entered the wrong user name or password. Reload the page (if necessary) and enter the correct information. If you are still unsuccessful, verify that you are using the correct user name (lower case only) and password (mixed case).
If you still have difficulty and you are sure that it is a technical issue (i.e. not a lack of the required user name and password), e-mail with your browser and operating system. A copy of any message appearing would help in diagnosing the problem.
Obtaining a User Name and Password
The user name and password are provided on the CAA members-only Canadian_Authors Yahoo! list serve. If you are not already on this list, you can obtain the necessary information from your branch president or see the Cyber CAA Brochure for details.
How to Obtain CAA Membership
On-line Membership Application
If you are not a CAA member, please view the information on the CAA Membership page. There is a membership application form in two parts available for downloading and printing.
Visit a CAA Branch
You can also attend a branch meeting near you to find out more about the CAA and CAA membership. Members at the meeting will be able to answer your questions and help you fill out an application.
